Clonad-Trumera 5-6 The Harps 4-4
Laois U-15 Division 3 Hurling League Final
Clonad-Trumera were crowned U-15 Division 3 league champions following an incredible game against The Harps this evening.
Clonad led by ten points at half time but found themselves five points down with 15 minutes to play.
But thanks to the scoring of Bobby Callaghan and Aedan Conroy, plus a crucial goal from James O’Shea, Clonad-Trumera were able to come back to win by five.
The Harps are fielding two U-15 teams with their first string beaten in the Division 1 semi final by Ballinakill-Ballypickas.
But these lads were extremely competitive with William Muldowney, Shane Townsend and Ben Murphy particularly impressive.
Clonad-Trumera had the wind in the first half and made a dream start as Bobby Callaghan struck for a quickfire 1-1.
The Harps had plenty of chances in the first half but could not find a way past Conor Kerry who made a string of saves from the likes of Jack Hickey, Cormac Kells and Shane Townsend.
Aedan Conroy landed a brace of points form Clonad-Trumera down the other end with Benjamin Peake also raising a white flag.
And they finished the half with a second goal as Conroy, Finty Duff and Peake were all involved before Callaghan struck for his second to leave it 2-4 to 0-0 at the break.
The Harps turned with the wind and couldn’t have dreamed for a better start to the second half when William Muldowney’s free from halfway went all the way to the net.
Ben Murphy added a free before Muldowney repeated the trick from play this time.
And the sides were level in the 41st minute when MJ Muldowney delivered a long ball that was won by Shane Townsend and he rattled the net from a tight angle.
Ciaran Farrell put The Harps ahead with a point and then Murphy scored a goal from long range to make it 4-3 to 2-4 with a quarter of the game to play.
Clonad-Trumera came back though as Bobby O’Callaghan completed his hat-trick and then Conroy cut the deficit to a point.
Shane Townsend hit back for The Harps but Clonad-Trumera went back ahead in the 55th minute when James O’Shea found the top corner of the net from distance.
That was quickly followed by a goal from Aeden Conroy who also struck over a late free to ensure his side were champions.
